Rory and I, on a Paddleboard, Realize We Should Not Have Taunted Mary Rose and Sabine
A pantoum for an early summer night at Liangma Canal.
Rory and I, on a Paddleboard, Realize We Should Not Have Taunted Mary Rose and Sabine
Two of us on a paddleboard in Liangma Canal
Two furies on the shore, who Rory taunted
Frightful, thoughts of sinking! They gained on us
We fled, yelling Go, wildly and with laughter
Two furies on the shore, who Rory taunted
He really shouldn’t have. We were dead in the water
We fled, yelling Go, wildly and with laughter
But they were faster, parting the dark water
He really shouldn’t have. We were dead in the water
It was nice knowing you, I said. We paddled
But they were faster, parting the dark water
It was a beautiful night, full of heat and dread lifted
It was nice knowing you, I said. We paddled
Two of us on a paddleboard in Liangma Canal
It was a beautiful night, full of heat and dread lifted
Frightful, thoughts of sinking. They gained on us

I really enjoyed the repetitions, it reminded me of electronic music somehow. And the mysteriousness! 🌉👏
