Monument
One can read exclusively the odd lines, the even lines, or both.
“Monument” was written last month for a photography x poetry exhibition curated by Jessica Medhurst and Ana Padilla Fornieles called (re)claimed: flotsam photographs & new retellings, in which local writers were asked to compose poems to black-and-white photographs set in China (mainly Beijing). The source of most of these photos, purchased from Panjiayuan Market, is unknown.
The exhibition is on display at Self Coffee / Golden Weasel until October 23.
Wonderful!
Brilliant poem, Anthony. Nice idea to create two overlapping poems that also comprise an entire poem in itself. I wonder if this poem would resonate with Chinese people, young or old? Impressive piece.
